Moving Variables

We move one variable term to the other side of the equal sign by using the inverse operation, for example the opposite of addition is subtracting. For the problem 16j=12-4j I would add 4j because
the inverse operation of subtracting is addition, so I would add 4j on both sides. The relationship between subtraction and addition is that they are the opposite of one another. The phrase "What
we do to one side we must do to the other side" relates to the balance scale, because if you have
a problem like 24j=12-4j, you must add because you have to do the inverse operation of the problem which is adding so then you add 4j on both sides,24j+4j and 4j+4j.

Hi Elmy,

I really enjoyed your blog post. You were able to clearly explain how addition and subtraction are opposites. You also showed clearly using variables how to add 4j to both sides of an equation.

Keep blogging!
Mr. Levy
